Son of John Rogers and Elizabeth Tidwell Alexander. He attended Bowie County public schools and Memphis Hospital and Medical School which later became part of the University of TN. He later engaged in advanced studies in Chicago and New York. He was issued a license to practice medicine in TX in 1890 and established his first practice in a small saw mill town in east TX. From 1895 to 1905 he practiced at Troy, he then moved to Waco where he was the first doctor to move out of the downtown office buildings. He was on the surgical staff of Providence Hospital from 1905 to 1938 when he retired.
