The son of Robert Jasper and Alice Burney Spencer. The family moved to Waco in 1905 where Alexander attended Waco High School and Baylor University graduating in 1917 with A.B. and M.S. degrees. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical school in Galveston about 1920, interned at the Cleveland City Hospital in Ohio, and taught 2 years at the Univ. of Texas Medical School. In 1923 he returned to Waco to practice. He was a partner in the Alexander Medical and Surgical Clinic and on the surgical staff of Providence and Hillcrest hospitals. He retired in 1968.
In 1923 Alexander married Alyes McCarthy; they were the parents of 2 children. He was a member of the McLennan County Medical Society, American Medical Assn., Waco Rotary Club, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
