History - Harrison Joseph "Jode" Burgess and his wife, Emma Lucretia Snow Burgess, could not have children. It was an answer to a prayer when Harrison's father, Isaac Henry Burgess, gave his infant daughter, Nina Burgess, to them to raise as their own daughter.

Nina was the youngest of a family of 8 children. Her biological mother, Penelope Thomas Burgess, had died soon after her birth. Nina's father, Isaac Henry Burgess, had no way to take care of Nina. Harrison and Emma also adopted Joseph Clawson Burgess. (information by Renae Burgess Linn)
