Mattie Lee was the oldest of 12 children born to her parents, John M Behn and Nancy Hanks Bramlett on November 7, 1892 in Hempstead, Texas. She received her education in the local schools in Hempstead. Being the oldest, she played a major role in the assistance of caring for her younger brothers and sisters.
She later met and married William Guy Jones. They had a total of seven children, four of which survived infancy; two boys, Tom Jones and Gerald George Jones and two daughters, Louise Jones and Corrinne Barbara Jones.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, John M. Behn, Sr. and Nancy Bramlett Behn; her daughter, Louise Jones Garrett; siblings, Arthur Frederick, George Washington, Henry James, Samuel, Prince Albert, Thomas White, and Alverta Behn Watkins. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Tom, Gerald and Corrinne Barbara; her siblings, John Mosley, Jr., Leroy, Dr. General Eckie Behn, Mosley Leonard, Addie Lee Behn Miller and Julia Barbara Behn Reid.
