THOMAS – Richard L., 90, Tanneryville, died Dec. 20, 2012, at home. Born May 20, 1922, in Johnstown, son of the late Blair and Hazel (Adams) Thomas. Also preceded in death by wife, Lois M. (Luther); children, Tommy, Ruth Uncapher and Sgt. 1st Class Norma Lockhart; grandsons, Richard E. and Stephen Scott; and siblings, Louella Stoner, Cliff, Carl, Glenn and Alan Thomas. Survived by children, Rhonda (Bob Masotta), Florida; Richard (Dorothy Sharp), Johnstown; Jerry (Michelle Urban), Johnstown; Don (Kim Potts), Johnstown; Rita (Glenn Strandquest), Johnstown; Daryl (Chrissy Verrette), Florida; and Ira, Johnstown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; also numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate of Greater Johnstown High School. World War II Army veteran, having served in many battles in European and North African campaigns, receiving six Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead. Retired machinist from Lower Cambria Department of Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp., with 42 years of service. Tax collector for West Taylor Township for 24 years. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golf with his boys. In his younger years, he was a very good baseball player. His favorite retreat was Prince Gallitzin State Park. Friends received from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Albright United Methodist Church, Pastor Carol Hickman, officiating. Private interment will be held at Benshoff Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
