handwritten document in German by Eduard. They were married in the morning in the German Lutheran Church on St. Valentine's Day.
In Germany, Grandfather Eduard is said to have been a gamekeeper on a royal estate or for a Lord or a similar rank. His possible trade was listed as a wagon maker. The Edward's father was considered a wealthy man, and was known as a Landgraf. He owned many sheep. In the town of Crossen there is a castle which has been there since the 13th
century (Piast Castle, whose walls in the thirteenth century, Henry the Bearded and stayed with the princess Jadwiga), therefore it is possible that some of the stories about royalty may have some truth to them.
Eduard and Augusta immigrated in 1881 with the final part of the voyage from England to the United States on the ship "England"
Edward and August first settled in Ottawa, Illinois, where, in August of 1881, infant Emma died. They remained there until June of 1882 when child Edward Alfred Erdmann Golisch was born. From there they traveled to Belle Prairie, Beadle County, Dakota Territory where in August of 1883, child Augusta was born. From 1885 – 1890 the Golisch family remained in South Dakota and had four more children.
In 1891, Edward and August were back in Pinegrove, Illinois where they remained until after 1896 and four more children. In 1898 the family moved to Stettin, Marathon County, Wisconsin.
