He was born Nov. 18, 1925 in Clarkwood, Texas to Guadalupe and Romana (DeLeon) Ruelas. He received his education and made his home in Texas before moving to Sunnyside in 1990. He worked for Smuckers in Grandview until failing health forced him to retire.
He enjoyed the outdoors, barbecues and his grandchildren. He was a member of the Tabernacle of David in Outlook.
He is survived by his children, Priscilla Gonzalez and husband, Dino, of Kennewick, Carlos Ruelas of Houston, Texas, James Ruelas and wife, Martha, of Alvin, Texas, Danny Ruelas and wife, MaryAnn, of Alvin, Texas and Mike Ruelas and wife, Corrine, of Lafayette, La.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Juan Ruelas of Seattle; and the mother of his children, Dolores Ruelas of Sunnyside.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Israel Ruelas Jr.; and three sisters.
