It become the sad duty of the Torch to record the death of John Barden who breathed his last on August 27, 1885. His death was caused by laryngitis or inflammation of the throat. He was in the 46th year of his age. He was born in lower Canada and removed when a young man to Vermont where he worked in the Fairbanks scale foundry. From thence he removed to Ripon, Wis. from thence to Ackley, Iowa from which point he came to Wausau in 1866, where he has since resided. He was an old riverman and well and favorably known to that class of men. He leaves a wife and eight children, the eldest the daughter, the wife of Frank Ryan, of this city, the next daughter now eighteen years of age, then six boys the youngest a babe of one year old. He was a most exemplary citizen, a kind father, a good husband, and firm friend. He has suffered much from the disease that took him off but always with patience and hopeful courage. He was buried from the Catholic church on Saturday last, Father Richard's officiating.
