Byars, 67, d. Sep. 23, 1993, bu. Celestial Mem. Gar. S/o Millage M. Byars and Lola Derrick. Member of St. Luke's Lutheran Ch. where he was a former chairman of the council. Retired as computer engineer for NCR of Dayton, Ohio and was author of "Olympia-Pacific, The Way It Was" and "Lintheads" for which he received a national award, "Lintheads and Hard Times" a play produced for the Columbia Bicentennial, and "Did Jesus Drive a Pick Up Truck?". Army veteran of WWII, member of Pacific Masonic Lodge 325 A.F.M. and a former member of Toastmasters. Survived by wife Merlene H. Byars; sons, Gregg and Robin Byars, both of Charleston, Jay Byars; Blaine Byars of Cayce; sister, Frances Hall of Charleston; brother, Ervin Byars; 5 grch.
