Mrs. H. C. Benning Thrown From a Buggy and Killed.
A terrible accicent occurred about 7 o'clock last evening, by which Mrs. H[einrich] C[onrad] {Dorothea} Benning, the wife of an old and estimable citizen, who resides at No. 925 Brooklyn street, lost her life. She was returning home from a buggy ride, in company with her husband, daughter {Caroline} and her son-in-law, Mr. C[harles] Do[e]rr. In turning the corner of West Eighteenth and Exchange, the horse took fright and ran away, throwing Mrs. Benning and Mr. Do[e]rr out, both striking heavily on the pavement. Mrs. Benning struck her head, fracturing the skull so badly that she died at 4:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Do[e]rr escaped with a severe scalp wound, but is not dangerously injured. Mr. Benning secured the team.
