Amanda Louise Bohnstedt was born about 1859 in Illinois. She was married in 1877 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Henry Taylor Miller. Henry died in 1939 in or near Guernsey Wyoming, and Amanda died approximately 2 years later, near Guernsey. Both are buried in Prairie Rest Cemetery near Guernsey, Wyoming.

There is a gravesite in the "Prairie Rest Cemetery" in which "Henry T. Miller" and "A. Louise Miller" are buried. This is without a doubt the final resting place of Amanda Louise (Bohnstedt) Miller and her husband Henry T. Miller. Unfortunately whoever was managing the cemetery when Amanda was laid to rest there put "Anna Louise Miller" on the record instead of "Amanda Louise Miller" causing some confusion, leading some to believe that there might have been two women; one named Anna and one named Amanda, which would imply that Henry T. Miller must have been married to two women!

However, there are numerous documents including census records and newspaper articles from 1939 and 1941 which prove clearly and beyond any doubt that Henry's wife was named was "Amanda".

There was also confusion regarding the actual year of Amanda's birth. In an 1870 census (in which Amanda is a one year old baby), and an 1880 census, the listed ages place Amanda's year of birth at 1859. But Amanda's listed age in later census records place her year of birth at closer to 1857, which is what appears on her grave marker. Despite this I personally believe the correct year of birth is 1859, because her age of 1 year old was given to the census taker by her own mother, and it's highly unlikely that a mother would not know the age of her 1 year old baby.

We know that Amanda left Illinois to live with her maternal aunt when she was about 14. We also know that Amanda married young, when she was about 15 or 16 years old. She probably lied about her age in order to be married. In an 1860 and 1870 Amanda's age puts her year of birth about 1859. So far we have not found her in any 1880 census, and of course the 1890 census was destroyed. But Amanda appears again in a 1900 census as Amanda Miller, and her age places her year of birth 2 years earlier, about 1857! From the time she was married she had somehow added 2 extra years to her life!
