His parents were Samuel "The Immigrant" Walkup (spelled Wauchope in Ireland) and Nancy Agnes Alexander. They were both from Carrick Fergus, Ireland. There are 2 conflicting stories of his birth, one says he was also born in Ireland and the other states he was born on the ship coming to America. His other siblings were, Joseph b. 1719 Ireland, Elizabeth b. 1725 PA, Margaret 1727 PA, Florence b. 1730 PA, and Arthur b. 1734 PA. He married Margaret Pickens in 1756 and had the following children: Samuel b. 1758 (my 3rd great grandfather) John b. 1760, James Jr. b. 1763, Martha b. 1766, Israel Pickens b. 1768, William b. 1770, Joseph b. 1776, Agnes Margaret b. 1778, Robert b. 1780, and Margaret b. 1783
