FIFTH GENERATION
25. George N.5 Lomax (John4, Thomas3, Theophilus2, Thomas1)5. Born, 6 April 1856, in Adams Co., IL. Died, 18 August 1919, in Grayson Co., TX53.
"A letter that Uncle Will wrote to Daddy telling about Great Grandfathers Lomax sending his son George and grandson, Sam Carothers, to look for a sow and they found a kit of burglar tools and other things. Also told about horse theives. The sister of one of the men they thought involved tried to get Grandmother Carothers to give the things they found to her." [Mary Elizabeth Carothers] George moved to Denison, Texas in 1882. [Laclede Blade, 10/18/1933] George and his sister Elizabeth Alexander were in Denison in 1912; their nephews (Samuel, Bruce and William Carothers) also went to Texas (ca. 1880) to work on the railroad. An article in the Laclede Blade on 17 January 1941 in the "Forty Five years Ago" column (January 1896) said: "George Lomax, brother of H.C. and J.W. Lomax of Laclede, lost his left hand in a railroad accident at Denison, Texas. He was an engineer on the Katy road at the time."
He married61 Nettie J. Born, September 1862, in OH62. Died, 3 October 1933, in Grayson Co., TX53. Nettie lived in Sedalia, Missouri when she and George met. Apparently George stopped there often because it was a main stop on the railroad and there was a railroad round house (& repair shop) there. Children:
i. Harry J.6 Lomax62. Born, 5 September 1887, in Grayson Co., Tx53. He married Irene63. In 1965, according to a letter from Paul S. Lomax, Harry was in very poor health and living at 316 Richardson Ave., El Cajon, CA.
ii. Georgia Lomax62. Born, April 1891, in TX. A 1965 letter from Paul S. Lomax stated that "Mrs. Georgia Lomax Haltier . . . lives in California in the Los Angeles area, but I do not have her address." [Her married name may have been Holtier.] An article about the death of her mother in 1933 mentioned a daughter, Mrs. G. Griebmeir of Palo Alto, CA. If this was Georgia, then she apparently had a earlier marriage.
