Robert (Bob) H. Tennant, Jr., of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of Owatonna
Sun City, Ariz. - Long time Owatonna resident Robert (Bob) H. Tennant, Jr. died Dec. 6, 2012, in Sun City, Ariz. Bob was born April 25, 1929, to Robert H. Tennant, Sr., and Helen W. Tennant in Duluth, Minn.
As a child, Bob attended Minnesota Normal School in Duluth. He graduated from Shattuck Military in Faribault in 1948. He went to work with Sears Roebuck in Duluth until 1950. He then served with the US Army 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War. After serving, he returned to Sears in the fall of 1952. In November of 1953 he married Mary Ester Munroe of Hibbing. The couple moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Sears until 1955 at which time he went back to school under the GI Bill and received an Associate's degree in accounting. After receiving his degree he spent several years in public accounting until he joined American Motors, Minneapolis Division as a general accountant. In 1959, he went to work for the Owatonna Tool Company in Owatonna as a general accountant and remained for 27 years. He retired in 1987 as the Manager of Cost Accounting for OTC. During his time at OTC, he was also a Director for the OTC Federal Credit Union.
During his years in Owatonna he was active with the Elks, Eagles, the Exchange Club and various charitable causes. He went on to become the President of the Upper Midwest Exchange Clubs. He was a long time member of the Owatonna Country Club.
He loved golf, hunting and fishing. In 1987 he moved to Bella Vista, Ark., to golf, fish and retire. While living there he was Chairman of the Bella Vista Streets and Utilities Committee. In 1997, he moved to Sun City Grand in Surprise, Ariz., and remained there until 2006 at which time he moved to Sun City, Ariz.
He is survived by his five children, Robert H. Tennant III of Lake Elmo, Minn., Judith Tennant of Savage, Minn., Thomas (Terry) Tennant of Owatonna, David Tennant of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Charles (Heather) Tennant of Tucson, Ariz. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, John Williams Tennant; sisters, Betty Tennant Rhode and Jean Tennant Spicer.
He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony to be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors.
He married Mary Esther Munroe 7 Nov 1953 in Saint Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota.
