Capt. Erastus O'Steen Causey (1874-1947), for years connected with steamboating on the St. Johns River, passed away Tuesday morning after an illness of several weeks at his home here.
The deceased was born July 4, 1874, at Georgetown, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Causey, pioneer residents of the Georgetown section. Early in life he started in steambot service on the river, and continued same as his life's work. He was one of the best known steamer captains and pilots in this area. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Eleanor Wells Causey of this city; one daughter, Doris (Mrs. Jack Tillotson) of Jacksonville; and a son, D. W. Causey of Winter Haven. Mrs. Esther Gibbs, of Georgetown, was a niece.
Funeral arrangements, in charge of W. Carl Davis and Son, have not been completed.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the Chapel of the Joe E. Crabb Funeral Home on South Second Street, with Rev. W. Pipes Jones, of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be in West View Cemetery, with Masonic services. (Palatka Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 28 Nov 1947.)
