US Navy Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. Born at Stockholm, Sweden, he served a Boatswain's Mate First Class in the United States Navy. While serving on board the "USS Missouri" (BB-11), near Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, September 15, 1904, Boatswain's Mate First Class Halling risked his life in an attempt to save a shipmate from drowning when he fell over board. For personal heroism, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. He died in New York, on March 22, 1928, at the age of 60.
