Multiple war veteran.

1745 - Sergeant in Joseph's Company, Bristol County Regiment commanded by Col. Sylvester Richmond in the Cape Briton Expedition of the "Old French War" which resulted in the capture of the fortress at Louisburg.

1758 - Captain of a company in the Lake George campaign of the French and Indian War.

"Minute Man" veteran of the Colonial War campaigns.

Richard was severely wounded by the accidental bursting of his gun on 4 November 1772 and died 4 days later. A loaded gun, which he had set on the ground, accidentally discharged, the barrel bursting into pieces. Eight inch pieces of gun barrel struck him just below the knee, completely severing his lower leg. He died shortly after the accident.

His Captain's commission was handed down for generations, but disappeared about 1891. The commission, dated "Massachusetts Bay Province 1758" was written on parchment and signed by Thomas Pownall, by order of his majesty King George II.
