Albertus W. Vander Meer of Statesville, N.C., formerly of Yardley, went home Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. He was 94.
He was born May 6, 1918, in Bath, N.Y., and was the son of the late Albert and Katrina Kolk Vander Meer.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the ship USS Cross DE448 in the Pacific Fleet.
He retired after 40 years as owner of The Yardley Cabinet Maker, repairing and refinishing furniture and antiques in Pennsylvania.
He was a volunteer with the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, a charter member of the V.F.W. in Yardley, a former member of the Elks Lodge in Florida, a member of the Boynton Beach Citizens Observer Patrol in Florida, and a member of American Legion Post 65 in Statesville.
He is survived by his bride, Wilhelmina Drager Vander Meer, whom he married Oct. 5, 1940; their daughters and their spouses, Joanne and Kenneth Campbell of Ormond Beach, Fla., Wilhelmina and Stephen Henning of Hazelton, Pa., and Nancy and Lyle James of Statesville; four grandchildren, Dennis and Keren Campbell, Kevin and Tiffany Campbell, Tracy Bowman, and Kristin and Michael Johnson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Mr. Vander Meer's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Stony Point United Methodist Church, 331 Ruritan Park Road, Stony Point, N.C., with the Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Friday, at the church.
