Francis was the son of Michael McCaffrey and Mary Doyle. He did not marry.

Jan 16, 1929 - Humboldt Republican - Again it is our duty to record the death of a former Humboldt county boy, born in Livermore 49 years ago. Frank McCaffrey died in Seattle, Washington, on Sunday, Dec. 30, and funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart church here tomorrow, Friday, interment to be made in the family lot in Mount Calvary cemetery.

Frank McCaffrey was the son of Michael and Mary McCaffrey, well known old settlers here, and he grew to manhood in this vicinity.

About 28 years ago he enlisted in the Coast Guard Heavy Artillery, at Seattle, Washington, and served one and one-half years. He then purchased his discharge to join the Seattle police force, and he was the first man on the force to lay off his star and enlist for service in the World War. He served several years but failed to get across the water.

After the war he resumed his place on the police force, serving until his death, although he was receiving a pension from the police force for continuous service. He has a remarkable record for faithful service, both in the war and on the force, and was held in high esteem at Seattle. He never married.

He was taken with flu on Sunday and drove to the hospital himself in his auto, dying the following Wednesday, three days later. His sister, Mrs. Shearer of Chicago was notified, and with her daughter Madge went to Seattle
and came with the remains as far as Omaha, where she remained while Madge continued the journey. The casket will arrive here tomorrow morning. Mr Michael McCaffrey arrived here yesterday from Waterloo and is making arrangements for the funeral services and interment.

Deceased is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Mickles of Omaha; Mrs; Anna Berry of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Ellen Murphy of Waterloo; Mrs. Lizzie Godfrey of Omaha; Mrs. Maggie Shearer of Chicago; Michael McCaffrey of Waterloo; Tom McCaffrey of West Bend.

Other brothers and sisters deceased are: Mrs. Sarah Saunders, Mrs Peter Riley, Phillip, Patrick, and Mrs. Alice Jaqua and her twin.

Among those who will be here for the funeral are Anna, Tom and Michael, but it is too early to report what others will arrive. Livermore Gazette
