A big thank you to this lady. She was one of the ladies that took on the monumental (literally) task to record all the monuments in The Butternut Cemetery about 3 miles north of Garrattsville, NY.

GARRATTSVILLE-RUTH CAROL MILLER: Ruth Carol Miller, 90 passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at her home in Garrattsville. She was born in Edmeston, the daughter of Howard A. Colburn and Pearle (Hickling) Colburn. She married Clyde Miller at the Morris United Methodist Church in 1955. He passed away in 1965. She was employed as a cook at Morris Central School for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 73. In her younger years, she had worked as a nurses aid at Fox Hospital, Pathfinder Village and had also done some private duty nursing. She was well known for her half-moon cookies and her apple crisp. Many M.C.S students will remember her for her chocolate chip cookies. Ruth enjoyed her Friday morning breakfasts and was well known and loved in the community. She crocheted a beautiful afghan and donated it to the Garrattsville Fire Department for many years for a their raffle. She was a devoted member and treasurer of the Garrattsville United Methodist Church for over 77 years. She was also a member and officer of the Butternuts (Brick Schoolhouse) Cemetery Association, the Burlington Grange, and the Garrattsville Fire Department Auxiliary for several years.She is survived by her brother and sisters, Wanda Tiffany of Burlington Flats, Margaret Crumb of Geneva, Pearl (Sally) Pickens of Fredericksburg, VA. Jone Lum and huaband Elmer of Edmeston, Pat Mahar of Texas, a sister in law, Josephine Colburn of Burlington Flats as well as many nieces and nephews and grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister and brothers Cecil Colburn, Betty Walitynski, Fay (Dick) Colburn, Kenneth Colburn, Edwin Colburn, Donald Colburn and Howard Colburn Jr. There will be no calling hours and graveside funeral services will be in Butternuts (Brick School house) Cemetery on Saturday, August 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers friends are asked to make donations to The Garrattsville Emergency Squad, 4413 St. Hwy. #51, Garrattsville, NY 13342 or the Butternuts (Brick schoolhouse) Cemetery Assn. c/o Karen Maerz, 1984 St. Hwy. 80, Edmeston, NY 13335 in her memory.
