Benjamin Kimbrough Gaston, son of Jacob Van Buren Gaston and the former Mary Jacobs, was born in the hamlet, Eve Mills in Monore County, Tennessee on December 2nd 1875. Ben had five older brothers and a younger sister. His father's family were related to the legionary Gaston's from South Carolina; who had been heroic patriots during the Revolutionary War.
Around the mid 1890's, his family moved to Knoxville where Ben met and married Martha Delila Harvey. Known as Mattie by her family & friends, Ben and Mattie made their home in Knoxville; where he worked for the Chavannes Lumber Company and raised their six children:
