Martin Bereft of Prominent Noble Citizen
Lee Elliott's capabilities Had Been Recognized By Fellow Citizens Long Time

Rites Held Sunday
Large Sympathetic Crowd Attending Are Testimonial To His Great Popularity

In the death of Lee ELLIOTT, Martin is bereft of an outstanding, upstanding citizen. For Lee was both. He was a Christian gentleman, possessing a warm, sympathic heart that bound all men to him with hoops of steel.
Mr. Elliott suffered a severe heart attack on Thursday and passed away at his home Saturday at 2 a.m. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church by his pastor, the Rev. E. V. Underhill, assisted by the Rev. C. D. Boozier. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery beneath a mound of floral offerings, with Winstead-Murphy Funeral Home directing.

The large crowd and the array of floral offerings was a testimonial to Lee's wide spread popularity.

He had been signally honored by his fellows, as floterial representative in the Tennessee legislature, mayor of Martin, chief of police there, and at the time of his death had represented the Martin district in the county court for about 30 years.

Surviving are his companion, Pearl Blackemore Elliott; three daughters, Mrs. Porter Heniger, Mrs. Morris Davies, McMinnville, Mrs. Russell Hillis, Maryville; three sisters, Mrs. W.W. House, Dresden, Mrs. L.F. Frazier, Martin, and Mrs. T. A. Lewis, Knoxville; a half-sister, Miss Annette Elliott, Memphis; and a half brother, James Elliott, Nashville.

Mr. Elliott was 71, and the son of the late Sheriff Ike Elliott
