Stella LaRene Bird Ames, age 76, of Ioka, died December 8, 2012 at home after a long illness. She was born April 21, 1936 in Bluebell to Clarence Oran and Lydia Lisonbee Bird. She married Floyd Eddie Ames March 17, 1956 in Ioka, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 21, 1964. Floyd died June 7, 1997. Stella worked as a nurse for the Roosevelt Hospital and Uintah Basin Medical Center for 30 years. She was a very caring person who always had a pleasant smile and disposition. She was active in the LDS Church, served 15 years in the Library, in the Primary and was an Ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. She was the "best mom and grandmother" to everyone, but especially to her own children and she just loved her grandchildren. She was a great cook, loved to bake, did a lot of crocheting in years past, and made quilts and afghans for most of her family. She liked working outside, working in her rock garden and always grew a large vegetable garden. She loved the mountains, camping, family reunions, barbeques, and get togethers. Stella is survived by children, Jackie Louise Smith, Roosevelt; Ray (Sandy) Ames, Roosevelt; Walt (Lori) Ames, North Pole, AK; Doris (Dean) Fitzgerald, Myton; Elva (Roy) Farnsworth, Gusher; and Gail (Clint) Crowley, Ioka, a son-in-law, Everett Unruh, Ballard; 50 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, John Bird, Bluebell; Keith (Annie) Bird, Kearns, and Jack (Joan) Bird, St. George. She was preceded in death by daughters, Leila Unruh, and Lydia Lee Ames (infant), grandchildren, Brian and James Unruh; 8 brothers, Charles, Alvie, Leo, Melvin, Clinton, Irvin, Oran "Shorty", and Marion, and a sister, Dolly Sorenson.
