Union, S.C. - Mr. Vernon V. Abee, Jr., age 74, husband to Joyce Haney Abee for 57 years, of 516 Toluca Street, Union, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012.

Mr. Abee was born in Carlisle, S.C. August 11, 1938, a son of the late Vernon V. Abee, Sr. and Irene Decker Abee Childers.

He retired from Torrington after twenty-eight years of service and was a former member of the S.C. National Guard. Mr. Abee was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher of the Men's Sunday School Class and played the bass guitar for the church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Peggy Hollingsworth and husband Tim of Union; a sister, Ellen Duckett of Whitmire; a half-sister, Frances Baldwin; a half-brother, Dan Abee; six grandchildren: Jaime Strickland and husband Jeff of Union, Alison Quaranta and husband Sean of New York, Brooke H. Boulware and husband Chris of Spartanburg, Brianne H. Sanders and husband Dr. Scott Sanders of Spartanburg; Leigh Abee of Columbia and Jeff Abee and fiancee Breanna of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren: Aidan Strickland, Ella Sanders, Emma Quaranta and one great-granddaughter, McKinley Sanders on the way.

Mr. Abee was predeceased by a son, Steven Lynn Abee; a sister, Alice Cranford; two brothers, Robert Lee Abee and Billy F. Abee and two half-brothers: Michael Abee and Roger Dale Abee.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. David Burrells and Rev. Wayne Cooke. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Craig Price, Carlton Chastain, Billy Grady, Barry Haney, Mike Haney and Eric Haney. The followng are asked to assemble at the chapel at 2:45 p.m. to form the Honorary Escort: Rev. Davis Williams, Wayne Hull, Ken Holcombe, Trey Arrington, Johnny Abee, David Brewington, Daniel Abee, Matthew Abee, Jerry Stepp, Tim Harrison and Donald Harrison.

Visitation will be held 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Peggy & Tim Hollingsworth, 743 Tinker Creek Rd., Union.
