OBITUARY

Thursday, November 9, 1967

HEAD - Thomas Merrit Head, son of James Henry and Mary Head, was born April 5, 1898, at Pike County, Ill., and passed away at the Decatur County Hospital, Oct. 30, 1967, at the age of 69 years.

At the age of two years, he moved with his parents to a farm near Russell and lived his entire life in the vicinity of Russell and Confidence.

On January 10, 1925, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Duer. To this union were born three children, James and Wayne of Des Moines, and Mrs. Bonnadine Deney of Stockton. He and his family lived in Confidence where Tom worked in the coal mine and the Rock Island Railroad until the death of his wife in 1959. He then moved to Russell until his health failed, and he moved to Promise City to live with his brother, William.

He entered the Wayne County Hospital in the winter of 1966, and was taken from there to the Westview Acres Rest Home in Leon, where he lived until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his father, mother, and a twin sister, Eliza Husted.

He leaves to mourn his passing three children, James and Wayne of Des Moines, Mrs. Bonnadine Deney of Stockton, three step-children, Chester Duer of Melrose, John Duer of Arizona, and Mrs. Wilma Hudson of Russell, two brothers, William and John Head of Promise City and one sister, Florence Head of Waukee, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Tom was a kind and considerate husband and father, a good neighbor and a true friend and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. C. Hook at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, 1967 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was at the Confidence cemetery at Confidence.
