M. Marie Pumphrey, 93, of Decatur died 2 p.m. Sunday (May 5, 2002) in Lincoln Manor North. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown.
Mrs. Pumphrey was born Dec. 3, 1908, in Greenville, the daughter of Jesse and Ida Mae Turner Hurst. She was retired from Allied Enterprises and a member of Foursquare Church. She married Raymond H. Pumphrey. He preceded her in death in 1938.
Surviving are her daughters, Jean Lamb of Haymarket, Va.; Ethel "Betty" Patterson of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Melvin Hurst of Overgaarde, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Raymond and Richard; brother, Chester Hurst; and sisters, Georgia Luckenbill, Mabel Michel and Cleo Clough.
