Polly, born in Virginia, moved with her family to Fort Boonesborough and then to Clark County, Kentucky when she was still a young child. She married Pendleton Hieronymus in Clark County, Kentucky in 1896. They subsequently moved to Washington, D.C. After experiencing financial setbacks during the time that they lived in Washington, D.C., he departed for Missouri in early 1820 to seek new opportunities, while Polly and the children remained in Washington. After receiving an appointment as the Indian agent in New Madrid, Missouri, he died in New Madrid in spring 1820.

Following his death, Polly and her children moved to Wytheville, Virginia in late summer 1820 to join her daughter Julia, who was serving as a schoolteacher there. She continued following Julia, eventually to Shelby County, Kentucky, where Julia and her husband founded a school.

Polly and Pendleton's confirmed children, in addition to Julia Ann, Benjamin, Emily, and Lucy Ann who are listed on this page, were Pendleton and William, both of whom were still alive in 1833. Other reported children, who died prior to 1833, were Arabella and Quinn.
