Noah Mendel Weller, one of the oldest citizens of Ligonier, died suddenly while sitting in his room of his residence on Market street. Tuesday evening shortly after '8 o'clock, August 31, 1920. He was found dead sitting in a chair shortly after he expired, having taken one shoe off preparatory to retiring for the night and leaning back in the chair suddenly expired from heart failure. He had been in failing health since last spring suffering from weak heart and dropsy. However, he was able to walk about town and on Monday had gone out to the country to the farm of his son, Edwin, driving a horse in a buggy and brought some apples to town.

Mr. Weller was born in Cook township November 28, 1834 and was 85 years, 9 months and 3 days old. His wife preceded him to the spirit world about 3 years ago. He was married to Elizabeth Brant of Ligonier township in 1860, and he is survived by two sons, Lemon B. Weller, of Ligonier, and Edwin Weller of Ligonier township, and by 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and by one sister, Mrs. Susan McAtee of Cook township.

He was a faithful and active member of the Methodist Episcopal church for more than half a century, being the first subscriber to the fund for building the present M. E. church.

In politics he was a Republican and held the office of auditor of West- moreland county one term and of poor; director two terms, besides other local offices. He was always interested in the improvement and progress of the town and the promotion of the church and the state. He will be missed in the community, a good man, friend and neighbor at the end of a long life has departed.

The funeral services will be held at his late home at 10:30 tomorrow forenoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wm. Hunter, Jr. The interment in the Valley cemetery by the side of his departed wife.
