The obituary of James Banks as published in the April 9, 1942, issue of The Mountain Eagle (page 1):
A Good Father Passes Away
James Banks, born Jan. 31, 1868 ended this life March 23, 1942, the cause being heart attack. Mr. Banks spent his entire life on Bee Tree Fork of Smoot Creek, being employed in the log woods and on the farm.
In March, 1889 he married Flora Adams and to this union were born five children. Flora and three children have preceded him in death. Two who survive are Lee and Fult.
In 1909 he married Rhoda Jones and to this union were born three children, Viron, Dorothy and Bruce all of whom still survive.
During the last few years of his life he had changed a good deal in his ways of living, never wanted any one to leave his home hungry, wanted every one who came to eat with him. He said every night he went to bed in prayer and when he had to go he hoped he would go quick and not have to suffer so long.
We can not find words to express our feelings to those who kindly helped us. We thank Mr. Steve Caudill of Ermine for his kindness to us and Rev. G. Bennett Adams and James Adams, for their consoling words of comfort. We extend our thanks to the Craft Funeral Home. LEE BANKS
