Velma Loraine Compton
Casper - Funeral services for Velma Loraine Compton, 88, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Poplar Street by Keith Sorenson of the Third Ward bishopric. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Visitation will be in the Relief Society Room one hour prior to services. She died peacefully on Feb. 13, 2003, in Casper.
Born Nov. 7, 1914 in Neosho Falls, Kan., she was the eldest child of James and Bessie Lucinda (Stephens) Trout; was raised on the family farm; and graduated with honors from high school. She worked in Iola, Kan., for a short time before her marriage.
On Jan. 3, 1937, she married her eternal companion, Asbury Wayne Compton, in Olathe, Kan.
They moved from Neosho Falls to Wyoming in 1939.
Known for her strength resourcefulness and compassion, she was a devoted mother and grandmother. An avid gardener, she loved working outdoors, reading, playing her piano and organ; and traveling, especially her trips to Nauvoo, Ill., New York and Europe.
She cherished her membership in the LDS Church and served in various church callings and leadership positions, including many years as a faithful visiting teacher.
She was the sole caregiver for her Uncle Ray until his death at age 97.
Survivors include three children of Bountiful, Utah, Casper and Buffalo; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister of Holiday, Texas; two brothers, Johnny Trout of Meriden, Kan., and Richard Trout and his wife of Casper; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband at age 51; parents; three sisters, Lucille Evans, Nadine Anderson and infant Coral Maxine Trout; and a granddaughter.
The family would appreciate memorials to the church's Humanitarian Aid Fund.
