Murphy Martin Stewart, 82, died Thursday at Lincoln Regional Hospital after a long illness.

The service was Friday at Higgins Funeral Home, conducted by Bert Watkins and the Rev. Sonny Moore. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

He was the son of the late William and Fannie Koonce Stewart and a native of Lincoln County. Mr. Stewart was was a retired employee of Kraft Foods and a member of the Liberty Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sue Stewart; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Pitts and Mrs. Dot Hoots, both of Fayetteville; five step-daughters, Mrs. Shannon Towry, Mrs. Brenda Poarch and Mrs. Lana Brown, all of Fayetteville, Mrs. Patsy Colvard and Mrs. Wanda Thompson of Dalton, Georgia; two stepsons, Ray Eddy of Fayetteville and Phillip Eddy of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Bonnie Kelley of California; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and 19 step-grandchildren.
