Born in Canada, came to US about 1923 to Ashton RI, moved to Woonsocket RI 1924. Was sent to live with older brother on his farm in Canada in 1934. Loved working with horses on farm with no heat, electricity or plumbing & gathering maple sap and keeping the fires going all night to make maple syrup. He said in the morning water was frozen in the house, he would get his clothes and go to the barn to dress because it was warmer in the barn with the animals.
Came back to the U.S. Thompson St East Haven Ct in 1938. Met Rose Scialla, was drafted into the army Feb 10, 1942. Wanted to volunteer after Pear Harbor but his mother said wait. Served in Patton's 3rd army, 4th Armored Division, 24th Armored Engineer Battalion, Headquarters Company. Drove a jeep. Participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Married Rose Scialla, moved to the suburbs, had two children and worked for American Refractories and Crucible in North Haven Ct till retirement. He loved fishing, camping, walking, vegetable gardening, the New York Yankees and helping family by building/fixing houses.
