AGED COUPLE LOSE LIVES WHEN HOME IS BURNED.
The new year was ushered in just over the Virginia line with a sickening tragedy, two aged people, Mr. and Mrs. David Rader being burned to death in a fire which destroyed their humble home about 2 o’clock Monday morning. The home of the Raders was in one of the deep, fertile gorges leading from the Green Bank valley into a spur of the Alleghany, known as Buffalo, and something like three miles from the town of Green Bank. The fire was not discovered until the roof was falling in, and none of the gruesome details will ever be known. A son of the aged couple was first to reach the scene, and he found his mother lying near where a window had been, her body a charred mass, while the father, when a door was forced open, was found lying on the floor just inside, giving rise to the inference that both had tried to escaped, but were overcome. Mr. Rader was an octogenarian and his wife far advanced in 70, the aged couple living alone. Mrs. Rader was a McQuain before marriage and a sister of Mrs Malinda Hire and the late Mrs. Una Wagner, of Strait Creek.
