A 39-year-old teacher at Skyview Elementary School in the Cobb County, Georgia, school district, she and her husband had planned and saved for two years to take a month-long vacation trip to the Midwest. Both were teachers and had planned to be back before school started again on Aug. 30.
They were in Big Thompson Canyon, Colorado on the night of July 31, 1976 when a flash flood went through the canyon and took 143 lives.
She was survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Baker of Tazewell; sisters, Mrs. Lester (Angie) Ramsey of Morristown, Mrs. Melvin (Lucille) Coody of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Archer of Rock Springs, Ga.; brothers, Earl Baker of Pound, Va., Jimmy Wayne and Charles Baker of Tazewell, and Larry Baker of Johnson City, Tenn.
Services held Aug. 17 in Little Mulberry Church with interment in Harkins Cemetery. Coffey Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
