It appears that she, too was born in Sand, Baden, Germany acoording to a 1928 trip back to Germany.
Through her census records it also appears that she came over to America and married Georg in Petoskey, Michigan with in a year or so. My hunch is that the families knew each other. [Need to add their marriage record that I just wrote away for!]

"I found George Hetzel marrying Babette Steurer in Emmett County, Michigan on 1 Nov 1894. Babette's parents are listed as Ludwick Steurer and Catherine Koellner. It is entry 178 on the page.
