Gertrude (Gertie) Eva Maria Norvell, 85, of Golconda, died 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012.
Gertie was born in Vienna, Austria, where she met her husband during WWII. Gertie was a devoted mother of seven who loved her family more than life itself. She enjoyed swimming, singing, dancing and making others happy. Gertie never met a stranger. She was a friend to all, and will be sadly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Gertie is survived by son, Mike and his wife Deborah; son, Johnny and his wife Beth; daughter, Patricia and her husband John; daughter, Susan; and daughter Rosa and her husband Dale. She adored her 18 grand-children, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and her niece, Gerti from Austria.
Gertie was preceded in death by Bert, her loving husband of 60 years, and their son and daughter, Kenneth Wayne and Shirley Marie.
She attended the Gospel Mission Tabernacle in Golconda and found solace that the Lord would call her home to a much better place. She passed peacefully at home, saying goodbye to her loved ones here and hello to her loved ones waiting to greet her.
Cremation will be handled by Aly Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends for a celebration of Gertie's life at New Liberty Church located near Eddyville from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.
