Borlaug Rites to Be Held at Calmar
Funeral services for John E. [Ellend] Borlaug, 88, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran church in Calmar. The Rev. H.A. Prues will officiate. Burial will be in Calmar Lutheran cemetery.

Mr. Borlaug was born Sept. 11, 1866 at Calmar. He died yesterday at the Balmer Rest Home.

He had lived in Calmar working on the railroad and farming until about six years ago when he moved to Estherville to live with his daughter, Mabel.

He married Hanna Charlotte Belle [Per Mabel's birth record: Belle; Per marriage records: Ivenson; per 1925 census, Swenson] in 1891 [1892] at Decorah. She died in 1898 and Mr. Borlaug never remarried.

Survivors include a son, E.P.G. Borlaug of Estherville, a daughter Mabel Susanna Borlaug of Estherville, a grandson and a great grandson.

Friends may call through Wednesday at the Sternborg Funeral Home where the body will lie in state until early Thursday morning. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 2, 1955)
