Don was born to Guy F. Atkinson and Myrtle (Herring)Atkinson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Guy F. was 34 years old at the time, Don's mother Myrtle was 27 years old. Birth Certificate says their residence was at the Plaza Hotel. Guy F's parents owned the Plaza Hotel and they were probably staying there. Don attended college in Newburg, Ore where he met Alma Ruth Beard who was 16 years old at the time. She was attending George Fox University. Don and Alma were married in Newberg, Oregon in 1926. Don and Alma had 2 children, Virginia(1927) and Robert(1929). They divorced Feb 13th, 1934 and Alma retained custody of the children. Don worked for his father's construction company, Guy F. Atkinson Construction Co. for many years, and also farmed in the Milk River, Alberta, Canada area for a number of years. He remarried, Jaunita Belle Thompson. Don retired to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Don and Jaunita eventually moved back to the US, Jaunita predeceased Donald in 1974. Don passed away in 1994 and was interned with his wife Jaunita in the Lethbridge, AB Cemetery.
