POWHATAN WRIGHT JAMES JR., M.D. - born on May 30, 1920, Lynchburg, Virginia, and died August 9, 2003, Houston, Texas. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School - 37, University of Alabama - 41, Baylor Medical School, Houston - 44. He served in the Army Medical Corps 45 to 47. He began his surgical practice in Houston, Texas in 50. He served on the staff of Hermann Hospital, Sharpstown General Hospital, Spring Branch Medical Center, and Sam Houston Hospital. After retiring, he was on the Hyperbaric Medical Staff, Spring Branch Medical Center.
He was a member of the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, Houston Surgical Society, Texas Surgical Society, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Houston, Texas.
Pow is survived by is wife, Julia Perkins James, daughter Jody Anderson and husband Drew Furgeson, daughter Jennifer Gilliland and husband Clint, son Powhatan James III, grandchildren, Lori Bletch and husband Larry, Julia Parsons and Celeste Parsons, and great grandchild Isaac Bletsch.
Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Houston, 5300 Main St., Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, August 13, at 2:00 P.M. Internment will be in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
