From the book: Texas Boys In Gray by E. Boswell

"At Alltoona Mountain I was shot between the eyes and they were about to leave me but I determined to get in the ambulance. I was carried down the mountain and I guess I fainted for I paid no attention to them putting those in the ambulance who were only slightly wounded. I raced up and told the doctor that I was going to too and he said there was not room for anyone else, but I told him if he did not let me go I would never fire another gun. They thought I would die, but I got up and ran to the ambulance and got in and got away.
