Al is survived by his children Mary Jean Giles, Alphonzo (Frieda) Monzo, and Bill Monzo; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He retired as Captain from the Akron Police Department after 36 years of service. Al proudly served his country during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army.
He was active in a variety of sports, especially enjoying handball.
Funeral Services will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Hummel Funeral Home, COPLEY, 3475 Copley Rd. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 4-8 PM.
