Fremont, Ohio - Friends of William D. Koontz, 81, of 1724 Japack Drive, Fremont, formerly of Elkhart, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler-Gutermuth Funeral Home, Where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Karen Warren of Central Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.

Mr. Koontz, plant manager of Clyde Tool and Dye Works in Clyde, Ohio, until his retirement, died Monday (February 18, 1991) at 1:30 a.m. in Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, where he had been a patient since January 24. He was born February 8, 1910, in Elkhart. He married Edna Grandsaff on February 6, 1938, in Elkhart. She survives with one daughter, Stephanie Scarfuto of Holland, Ohio; two sons, William D., Jr. of Coral Springs, Fla., and Michael of Grand Rapids, Mich.; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter E. of Elkhart.

He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Fremont, Ohio, and a veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II.
