James was born in Cameron, Texas, and married Artie Irene Blocker in 1946, in Cameron. The couple lived in Teague for 17 years, where James managed a Duke and Ayres Department Store. They moved to Marlin in August 1960, and He was the Marlin distributor for the Tribune-Herald and Dallas newspapers. James was a World War II veteran and a member of the Timbercrest Church of Christ in Waco.
Survivors include his wife, Artie; son, Danny Edmonds, of Marlin; daughter, Sheila Donahue and husband, Michael, of Belton; a grandson; brothers, Albert Edmonds, Benjamin Edmonds, Donald Edmonds and Jarrell Edmonds, all of Cameron; sisters, Mrs. Florence Pugh and Mrs. Jean Krall, both of Cameron; other relatives and many friends.
