After her mother's death on July 18, 1911, Agnes' father enrolled her and her two sisters in the St. Francis Orphan Asylum, later known as the Citizens' Hospital and Orphan Asylum, outside Tiffin, OH. They stayed at this institution for 10 months - October 1, 1911 through July 31, 1912. To see a record of their enrollment, click here and scroll down to the year "1911". Dennis must have been overwhelmed at the prospect of caring for seven children all by himself and this type of arrangement - enrolling a child in an "orphanage" when there was a surviving parent - was quite common at that time.

According to a niece of hers, when Agnes was age 16 - ca. 1916 - she "ran off" to Cleveland and was married to Aaron Moses Papurt. Click on his name below to see his memorial.
