Benjamin Byram was the son of Edward and Phoebe Coe Byram. He married Betsy Maxwell on 24 May 1804 in Bourbon Co, KY. They resided for a time in Preble Co, OH, and then in Crawford Co, Indiana. After his wife's death in about 1821, he brought two daughters to Pleasant Hill, Mercer Co, KY, where he lived as a Shaker for the last 40 years of his life. Benjamin's sister, Phebe Byram Rule, her husband Thomas, and many of their children, were also members at Pleasant Hill Shaker village. Two of Benjamin's daughters, Anna and Eliza, lived and died as Shakers. His son, Edward, died single at New Albany, Indiana. His oldest daughter, Althaea, was born in Preble County, Ohio, Jan 15, 1808, married Dr. David Green Stewart, on 9 Jan 1823 in Crawford Co, IN, and died in New Albany, Indiana.
