Obituary: Jamestown NY Evening Journal, May 26, 1917
The funeral of Albert Clapp, who died on Tuesday morning was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M. E. church, conducted by Ellington lodge No. 915 I. O. O. F. and Maple Park Rebekah lodge of which he was a member. Rev. Smallenberger of Cherry Creek preached a funeral sermon and was assisted in the service by Rev. Ellinghouse of this place and Rev. Mahon of Randolph. Mrs. William Curtis and George B. Waith sang and interment was made in Valley View cemetery. Among those present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Clapp, Mrs. Aaron Clapp, Mr. and Mrs. A. H Stafford of Jamestown, Mr. and Mrs Fletcher Baxter.
Albert Clapp was born in Ellington on November 26, 1846, and spent his life here with the exception of three years during which he lived in Steamburg.
He was the youngest son of Aaron W. and Louisa Arnold Clapp and is survived by a brother and sister, William Clapp of this place and Mary Baxter of East Randolph, beside the wife, Harriet Amidon Clapp; three brothers, Wellington, Charles, Aaron, and one sister, Harriet passing on before. Albert will be missed by the entire town, for his cheery disposition and general helpfulness, and by the Odd Fellows as one of their most willing and dependable brothers. The entire community sympathizes with the family in their sorrow.
