Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1947 and retired after twenty-three years of service and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer W-3 after receiving numerous medals and citations in his career. During his active service, he worked as an assistant to the Attorney General in Fort Lewis, Washington and later was instrumental in the logistical planning of and support for the Bay of Pigs Operation.
He retired to his hometown of Damascus in 1970 and joined Columbus-McKinnon Corporation as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1996 after another twenty-three years of service.
He was an avid farmer, mechanic, and craftsman. He was a devout Christian, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Laurel Community Church for many years.
He passed away at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tennessee.
