Ray L. Byerley, 90, 619 North Academy, longtime Guymon businessman died at his home in Guymon Thursday morning. The son of Charlie and Della Byerley, he was born Feb. 9, 1899 at Omaha, Neb. He married Blanche Konkel, Sept. 18, 1916 at Pratt, Kan.

The Byerleys moved to Guymon from Hutchinson, Kan. in 1935. They established Byerley's Cafe No. 1 and No. 2 which they operated until 1951 when they built the Byerley Motel and Restaurant. They sold the motel and retired in 1960.

He was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and Guymon Masonic Lodge No. 335 A. F. & A. M., the Scottish Rite Consistory, Guthrie and the India Shrine Temple, Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche in 1984, and two sons, Carroll Byerley and Jack Byerley. Survivors include one son Millard Byerley and his wife, Marian of Amarillo, Texas; eight grandchildren including Sami Joiner and Jill Kirkwood of Guymon and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Henson Funeral Home Chapel in Guymon, Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. Rev. Jim Smith of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Lions Memorial Park at Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson Funeral Home of Guymon.
