Obituary for Ethel Benson
Passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the age of 61 years. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 noon Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Wolverine State Baptist Headquarters, 615 S. Jefferson Ave. Pastor Otis Washington will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Holy Communion Gospel Center, 1245 E. Genesee Street, on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present at 5:00 p.m. for a family hour. In the early hours of Saturday, December 8, 2007, God peacefully called one of His most faithful soldiers home at the age of 61 years. Born January 26, 1946 in Texarkana, Texas, Ethel "Pearl" Benson was the daughter of the late Gus and Lillie Pearl Butler. She was a graduate of both Saginaw High School class of 1964 and Delta College. She experienced life to the fullest with her husband of 39 years, Eddie Benson, whom she married on August 31, 1968. He survives her. Ethel touched the lives of many. She was co-pastor of the Christ Disciples Baptist Church, a speaker for the United Sisters in Christ and a volunteer for the Saftey Net after-school program. Her loving nature, constant smile and warm and wise words will be dearly missed by her husband, Eddie Benson of Saginaw, MI; their three sons, Edward Benson of Boston, MA, Erving Benson of Chicago, IL and Ellison Benson of Saginaw, MI; sisters, Verna Anderson and Pat Butler, both of Chicago, IL; mother-in-law, Johnnie L. DeBardelaben; many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends, including her special friends who made her last days more peaceful, Sharon Granderson, Marie DeBardelaben and Kim Wilson.
