He was born Dec 16, 1896, in Bavaria, Germany, the son of Xavier and Anna Knab. He married Anna Fastenmeier. She died May 10, 1990.
Mr. Knab was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
He retired as a car repairman from the Pennsylvania Railroad and was self-employed as a farmer.
Mr. Knab served with the German Army during World War I.
Surviving are three daughters: Louse Sutch of Medford, Ore., Anna Helsel and Mary T. Zeak, both of Hollidaysburg RR 1; a son, John Jr. of Altoona; 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
A son, Frank, preceded in him in death July 19, 1995.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg.
Services for John Knab Sr wll be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sorge Funeral Home, by Father John J. Palko. Interment at New St. Mary's Cemetery.
